7 Creative questions for self discovery

by Elijah Falode

Mediocrity and pretence are the norms these days. I have decided never to live amidst mediocrity. For far beyond my limit, I can take my sunshine just like that tree with its wide-spread branches takes the sunshine from miles around. I am who God wants me to be. I am not a photocopy. I am God’s original. Our kind is very rare.

It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not. The World does not celebrate a carbon-copy, but the QUALITY. It is time to write your own story.

I was born to be a weblogger. I know that’s the best IT work I can ever do. It requires creativity and initiatives though. I have designed blogs for networks, organizations, clinics, and business outfits. I am an astute blogger. On the other hand, I fancy web designing and programming. I could make more money designing websites than blogs. I could as well design blogs for free. I have passion for it. I have books and resources on web designing and programming, but that was not my IT calling. Someone can do it better. I wouldn’t want to be the second best. I will rather focus on my strength and delegate my weakness. I am the QUALITY in what I know how to do best. I am myself. You can do IT!

Efficiency and effectiveness are products of specialization. You can delegate your weakness and focus on your strength. Always be the best in what you can do better!

Everybody wants to do IT. It would have been better if you are the best JAVA programmer, than to be a JACK of all trades. It is time to look inward, search yourself and be the best in what God has created you to do. Imitation is limitation!

Maximum exploit is a function of how you have positioned yourself in doing the best thing you can do. Martin Luther once said, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted or Ludwig Van Beethoven composed music or William Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that man and angels will pause and say,” Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well”.

Have you been called to teach? Do not only teach like Professor Babatunde Fafunwa of blessed memory, the man who brought positive reforms to Nigerian Education; but teach as if you were born to instruct. Do it as if that’s the best thing you can ever do aside breathing. Do it as long as you breathe.

I like asking creative questions from my friends. I once asked, “Where do you see yourself in the next five years?” He who fails to ask and answer creative questions will surely question his existence. It’s your life. Take your notepad and let’s DO IT!

Creative questions for self discovery.

5. If you are given the chance to come back again,

Will you
Choose that career, business or course of study?
Prefer a change of background.
Still choose the same school or university.
Maintain the same relationship.
Prefer the same parents, relatives and social background.

6. Have you drawn your life’s goals before? If no, DO IT now!
7. Where do you see yourself in the next 3,5,10 and 20 years?
Lori Prokop once asked, “ If I was an all powerful being in your field, and I could solve any three problems, what would they be? What could I help you achieve? If the world does not celebrate you, celebrate yourself. You are a destiny waiting to happen.

Choose to be yourself everywhere you go. You are the next celebrity!
