Sabella Ogbobode Abidde

Please, do not ask me about religion. I get the evil look every time I tell people I am an agnostic who teeters on atheism. My world resolves around ethics and the rule of law. That’s it. I have no use for religion: religious convictions are not part of my existence -- the laws of man are good enough for me. I have lived in several cities: Seattle, Miami, Norman, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Saint Cloud, the District of Columbia, Houston, and Mankato. I am not sure where I am going to live next. And I have never really had a profession, only jobs: been a cook, a dishwasher, a civil servant, house cleaner, university instructor and researcher and so on and so forth. Every so often I get questions concerning the role and place of the African woman. Well, I don’t know; at least not with any certainty. What seems to work best is when both partners work as a team: cooperate, coordinate and collaborate their marital efforts. And they should be mindful of the insidious effect of modernization on the African family.

Nigerian Big-Shots, Big Egos and Sugar-Daddies

There is something about small and narrow-minded people that vexes me. East or West, North or South, they all have three things in common: haughtiness, roguery, and the propensity to subjugate the common man...

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)

There has been criticism on the use of the funding and other monies that NGOs raise. Criticisms range from pointing out that only small percentages go to people in need, and some even have been used to pay very high salaries of the people at the top...

Images from and about Africans

Images from and about Africa and Africans can be gruesome and demoralizing. The western press paint a picture of a continent and a people that are incapable of governing themselves, incapable of self-sustenance, and incapable of providing the most basic of all basics without western help...

Terrorists…Insurgents…The Middle East

Various scholars have noted that it is very easy to start a war; but very difficult to end it. Wars are messy and expensive and usually have unintended consequences. In the final analysis therefore, diplomatic and political arrangements are far better...

Third Term Still Possible for Obasanjo

For over a year now, Obasanjo knew he was going to seek a third term in office. He knew it; yet he did not prepare the country for such an eventuality until it was too late and in the process gave his enemies and critics the time and the chance to organize against him...

Rethinking President Obasanjo

Long before Nelson Mandela, President Obasanjo was the man who was associated with high standards and probity.Somehow he threw all that away. How? Why?

Agbani’s Sickening Folly: Responding to Ugochukwu Ejinkeonye

What is it, what was it about a “bare breast” that so infuriated the author that he couldn’t help but call Agbani all sorts of names? I’d rather ogle and admire Agbani’s bare breasts than engage in hypocrisy and the level of intolerance and bitterness exhibited by Ugochukwu Ejinkeonye...
