Sabella Ogbobode Abidde

Please, do not ask me about religion. I get the evil look every time I tell people I am an agnostic who teeters on atheism. My world resolves around ethics and the rule of law. That’s it. I have no use for religion: religious convictions are not part of my existence -- the laws of man are good enough for me. I have lived in several cities: Seattle, Miami, Norman, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Saint Cloud, the District of Columbia, Houston, and Mankato. I am not sure where I am going to live next. And I have never really had a profession, only jobs: been a cook, a dishwasher, a civil servant, house cleaner, university instructor and researcher and so on and so forth. Every so often I get questions concerning the role and place of the African woman. Well, I don’t know; at least not with any certainty. What seems to work best is when both partners work as a team: cooperate, coordinate and collaborate their marital efforts. And they should be mindful of the insidious effect of modernization on the African family.

Ethnicity and Religion: Misperception and Prejudice

In today's Nigeria ethnicity is either at the core or at the ring of our problems; or at the least, ethnicity straddles it. At the core of corruption is ethnicity. At the core of nearly all the military coups we have endured was ethnicity...

Are Men…and Women Necessary?

I don’t know if anyone is keeping records; but this is my observation: In predominantly White states, especially in the Midwest, when a Nigerian man divorces a Nigerian woman, the chances are that he would end up with a non-Nigerian woman...especially a White woman...

Child Support, Alimony and Palimony: Coming Soon to Nigeria

Poor Paul McCartney, against all advice, he refused to have Heather Mills sign a prenuptial. And now he is going to pay for his mistake. Damn, doesn’t life suck? Hey fellas, when it is your turn, please have her sign the damn papers. Love is good; but not good enough!

The Military In Nigeria

Year after year, the brave men and women of the Nigerian Military sacrifice their time and their lives so people like you and me may live. How do we repay such debt?

Gender Equality: Men And Women Are Not Equal

I sometimes wonder if we truly can speak of gender equality; and even if we can, I wonder if equality is always healthy and always desirable. Most of us in the West are simply parodying the West instead of being “true to ourselves...

Agbani Darego and the fallacies of Uche Nworah

Men encouraged women, or at the very least, acquiesced to whatever indecent behavior we may associate with women. And in some cases, men forced women to engage in indecency. Men, we all know, are the repository for licentiousness...

In Support of Iran’s Nuclear Ambition

If Iraq wants to go nuclear, she ought to be able to do so since every state has the right to safeguard her national interest. Why did the United States not attack the Soviet Union or vice versa during the Cold War? Every state knows the consequence of attacking another state with nuclear weapons...

A Grateful Nation

Every time I make gracious remarks about the United States of America, majority of private respondents end up sending me hate mail. And every time I voice my support for America’s war efforts, an ample number of my readers send me derisive mail...
