Joan C. Akubue

Joan C. Akubue is a Client Service Executive/copywriter for Tequila Nigeria. Author of The Last African Poet, a book of verse (Priceless Books, Lagos) currently being studied as a literature text in several Nigerian schools, she also writes fiction, plays, songs and poetry. Some of her poems have been published online (www.poetry.com). Others have been selected for publication in a soon to be released anthology titled: 'Under the Quicksilver moon'. A few have been set to classical music. Akubue writes a weekly column for the Guardian on Saturday, a series of essays that examine aspects of everyday life. In her words, "I read voraciously, write from the heart, love refined music such as jazz, gospel and Mozart. I'm also keen on travelling, meeting new people, fashion and good grooming. Nothing does it for me like a good laugh and the company of like minds." She has a B.Sc. from the Computer Science University of Nigeria.
