Kalu and (Un)known Gunmen

by Odimegwu Onwumere

In his book, “The Language of Soul: Keys to Living a More Meaningful Life”
Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar, Religion of the Light and
Sound of God, while ruminating on “A Seed for Contemplation” said, creative
people who cherish the gift of life often slip into the secret chambers of
the creative mind. Their solutions are well-rounded, more sensible than
those of people who rely solely upon reason as their mainstay. Gratitude
unseals fountains of creativity, because a grateful person is relaxed. This
allows him to take stock of his circumstances with an objective mind. A
creative person often gets three-dimensional answers to his problems.

It was sad to note that (un)known gunmen attacked Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu on
Saturday, March 2, 2013, at his hometown of Igbere, Abia State. They showed
their shameful act, shot sporadically at a bus being piloted by one of his
aides. Did they think that Kalu was in the bus? Why did they attack Kalu’s
vehicle? Who was wishing Kalu untimely death? Do they think that to kill
Kalu will be the best thing to do?

It seems that some people read obituaries with great pleasure and others
think that killing is a social responsibility; while some people work very
hard to make the world a peaceful habitable place, killers think that
killing would bring the peace they perhaps are looking for.

One sacrosanct thing whoever that sent the killers after Kalu did not know
is that they have made the worst mistake. Did they think that Kalu is a rat
that somebody can easily smash? They are cowards, who do not mind the
useless action they have taken.

A Thomas Jefferson had warned evil people to desist from bestial acts. He
was quoted as saying: Such is the moral construction of the world that no
national crime passes unpunished in the long run… Were present oppressors
to reflect on the same truth, they would spare to their own countries the
penalties on their present wrongs which will be inflicted on them in future
times. The seeds of hatred and revenge which they sow with a large hand
will not fail to produce their fruits in time. Like their brother robbers
on the highway, they suppose the escape of the moment a final escape and
deem infamy and future risk countervailed by present gain.

Why engage in all sorts of evil deeds? Who thinks that Karma doesn’t exist?
A Bohidharma sufficed to say that they erroneously maintain that since
everything is empty, committing evil isn’t wrong. Such persons fall into a
hell of endless darkness with no hope of release. Those who are wise hold
no such conception.

We could recall that on Wednesday, 06 October 2011, (un)known gunmen also
invaded the Lagos residence of Dr. Kalu, in Victoria Island and, shot dead
one of his aides, whose name was given as Michael Ogbonna, by about 4.00
p.m. The killers purportedly were two in number, the same two persons that
riddled Kalu’s bus on March 02, 2013? They seemingly carted away N2
million. Who are these two evil men?

Whatever they call themselves, no negative force in and out of Abia State
can defeat Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. He represents light, which negative forces
are always afraid of. Kalu does not live in a room full of darkness. Those
(un)known gunmen who are after Kalu should take this wise advise from Sri
Guru Granth Sahib. He said: People are entangled in the enjoyment of fine
clothes, but gold and silver are only dust. They acquire beautiful horses
and elephants, and ornate carriages of many kinds. They think of nothing
else, and they forget all their relatives. They ignore their Creator;
without the Name, they are impure.
