Newsweek-Adeboye: Pentecostals

by Taiwo Olokun

This month (March 09) i came across a Newsweek article online titled “Newsweek: The Global Elite”. A Nigerian Pentecostal preacher (E.A. Adeboye) was on that list. After reading the section about E.A. Adeboye and especially what people had to say, i included my comments.

In the comments section, someone said:
Pastor E.A. Adeboye is a true prophet and a man of God filled with the Holy spirit. During the ministers/workers conference meeting in Floyd, daddy preached about Elisha and Elijah. He later told us to look at him, and to ask God for the gift of the spirit each of us desired in him. I asked God for two specific things that I desire in daddy and God has granted them unto me (http://www.newsweek.com/id/ 176333/output/comments).

That’s idolatry. But in Isaiah 45:22, the only true Saviour, the God of the Jewish Scripture (Old and New Testament) says: “Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” Colossians 1:17-19 “And Christ is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell” In Christ, not in Adeboye or any other spiritual leader.

Another person said:
… Africa today, had been forgiven the years of idolatry of the past through the works of the ADEBOYES of this generation. … Adeboye and Obama are the signals to the west that power is changing hand now: as divinely directed by God. The human redemption will surely come through Africa. …

Lies, all lies!! Even the coming ruler of the world (the fake Christ) is coming from the Roman Empire, not Africa (Daniel 9:26). In John 4:22, Jesus (YahShua) said: “You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.” True Salvation is from the line of David Yitzaak, not Africa, not Europe, or any other people. Also, no African or anyone else will be forgiven for idolatry through “the works of the Adeboyes of this generation”. Those who truly desire to be forgiven will only be forgiven through the finished sacrifice of the Jewish Messiah, the Lord Jesus.

Another person wrote:
pastor Adeboye is the elijah of our time, may the annointing of God over him never run dry

Not true. Hebrews 1:1-2 says “God who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the (Jewish) fathers by the (Jewish) prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds” Jesus (YahShua), not Adeboye.

Another person commented:
It’s unfortunate, today, that most people worship science instead of their maker (God). This should not surprise us because Jesus warned of this in Gospel according to St. Matthew 24:24 when He said “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect (http://www.newsweek.com/id/ 176333/output/comments).

Amazing blindness! That Scripture along with many others like it is what ought to make people turn away from false spiritual leaders but their followers are so blind they will by all means follow these false spiritual leaders rather than listen to Jesus through the Jewish Scripture (Old and New Testament).

Another person said:
… I don’t believe the world has seen a greater gathering of people in one place as seen in Nigeria during the Holy Ghost Services with estimates of over 1 to 1.5 million people. All these people cannot be stupid at the same time! …

All these people cannot be stupid? In Matthew 7:13-23, Jesus said: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing … Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”

Many of his followers call him “daddy”. The following is an example:
AM HAPPY TO HAVE A FATHER LIKE YOU DADDY, WHEN I WAS A KID I HAVE ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO HAVE A MENTOR LIKE JESUS CHRIST HERE ON EARTH, UNTIL I JOIN THE REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD IN 1998 DEC. THEN I FOUND YOU WORTHY TO TAKE THAT POSITION IN MY LIFE, TODAY YOU HAVE REALLY PROOVE YOURSELF TO BE A FATHER THAT IS WORTH EMULATING, I AM PROUD OF YOU DADDY E.A. ADEBOYE.

Another person wrote:
God Bless Pastor E. A. Adeboye. I LOVE YOU DADDY
(http://www.newsweek.com/id/ 176333/output/comments)

But in Matthew 23:8-9, Jesus instructed His followers: “But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in Heaven.” Why have The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) leaders allowed their followers to develop the evil habit of calling E.A. Adeboye “daddy”? It’s idolatry.

Most Pentecostal Pastors teach that they are protected from lacking earthly wealth. They teach that they are protected from physical danger/sickness. This makes them more important/powerful than the original apostles of the Lord Jesus who suffered greatly and could never teach such a seductive thing. In 2Corinthians 12:7-9, Paul said: “And lest i should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest i be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing i pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness’. Therefore most gladly i will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore i take pleasure in sicknesses, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when i am weak, then i am strong.”

Written to Christians: Hebrews 10:32-35 “But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in Heaven. Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.”

In 1Timothy 5:23, Paul wrote to one of his assistants (Timothy): “No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.” God used His servants to heal many people but the miracles are at God’s discretion and timing, not the apostles’ timing (i.e., the apostles did not set up a Holy Spirit ti

me when the Holy Spirit must come and do miracles. Blasphemy!! God is God, not preachers who use various mental tricks to prepare their followers and set up miracle hours).

I follow the Jewish Scripture (Old and New Testament). I believe God can do miracles but unlike these lying preachers, God’s miracles are not according to our own will or greed or timing. Lying preachers set up miracle hours, they use hype/mental tricks to set their people up for miracle hour delusions, it’s contrary to the Scriptures.

I don’t blame the person who said: “Habaa!! 200 miles on empty tank!!” Adeboye (and many deceived preachers like him) claim that God told him to just keep driving. These days, there are too many preachers that stand over the crowd and just tell lies all day long. It’s very sad that millions of people all over the world love to follow lying preachers such as Benny Hinn, Oral Roberts, the Copelands, Fred Price, etc., rather than listen to the true Words of the true Jesus who said “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Anointed One!’ or ‘There!’ Do not believe it. For false Christs (false anointed ones) and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand” (Matthew 24:23-25).

Oral Roberts wrote a letter to a man. In the letter he said he prayed all night long for the man’s wife and that god told him the woman will be healed of the cancer. That man was so angry because unknown to Oral Roberts, that man’s wife had died. The man angrily replied to Oral Roberts that Oral is a big liar. It’s very sad. Some of these lying preachers have really deceived themselves. They think they are doing God a favor by telling faith-building lies. A faith/soul that has lies as its foundation will sooner or later begin to perish.

I now know why Nigeria is full of fraud stars/fraudsters. The elders/preachers tell lies all day long. That’s why Nigeria is full of fraud. Weep for Nigeria. God help us to be courageous and speak out against our father’s house like Gideon who stood up against his father’s house/the elders and their lies. Judges 6:25-28 “Now it came to pass the same night that the LORD said to Gideon, ‘Take your father’s young bull … and tear down the (false altar) that your father has, and cut down the wooden image that is beside it; and build an altar to YAH your God on top of this rock in the proper arrangement … So Gideon took ten men from among his servants and did as the LORD had said to him. But because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city too much to do it by day, he did it by night. And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, there was the (false altar), torn down; and the wooden image that was beside it was cut down, and the second bull was (on fire) being offered on the altar which had been built.” I’m not saying that anyone should physically destroy any false altar, but those who belong to Jesus should speak out against false teaching/practice. Lying Pentecostal preachers are not God. They are liars. They use fear to put the masses under their grip. No one should fear them. If you are afraid, put your trust in the Scriptures, not in these liars who use fear tactics and often say “touch not the Lord’s anointed”. But the prophets of the Jewish Scripture (Old and New Testament) are the Lord’s anointed who we must listen to, not these deceived Pentecostal preachers who give Shavuot (50th day) a bad name. Rather than allowing people to know the Scripture and fear the Scripture alone, they make people fear them.

In Luke 18:8, Jesus said: “… Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Surely that prediction is being fulfilled in these last days. Lying Pentecostal preachers are everywhere. Millions of church-goers have a false faith (i.e., a faith that is contrary to the teachings of the New Testament).

There’re just too many holes to pick in this essay. Let’s just say half-truth is deadlier than ignorance. For example, Paul or Peter’s shadows heal the sick. In fact, folks intentionally position themselves so their shadows should fall on them.
