Abia abandons PDP for Progressive Peoples' Alliance

by Odimegwu Onwumere

“There are people who are generic. They make generic responses and they
expect generic answers. They live inside a box and they think people who
don’t fit into their box are weird. But I’ll tell you what: generic people
are the weird people. They are like genetically-manipulated plants growing
inside a laboratory, like indistinguishable faces, like droids. Like
ignorance.”

Ndi-Abia have not stopped to show their anger against the superficiality
called governance in Abia State, owing to a lot of misrepresentations by
their Governor Theodore Ahamuefule Orji.

Everybody is crying in Abia State, except those cronies of the governor in
government and those by the side who have ways of benefiting from the
government, hence about 5, 000 members of the ruling party were reportedly,
had genuflected to the Progressive Peoples’ Alliance (PPA).

This is what happens when a supposedly leader is genetically-manipulated by
those around him or her, whose only praise is when millions of money enter
their bank accounts from the government.

What a government that has brought Abia State to ridiculousness! Abia is
only working in the media; hardly is anything on ground to show for the
nearly 7yrs of Gov. Orji’s stewardship. Majority of the people have been
made political widows and many have died as a result of hardship that they
could not bear.

Many might die if good representation does not come their way very soon.
The state is a disaster, especially judging by the environmental
degradation. And when the environment of a particular ecological-unit is
not favourable, everything works balderdash.

Much to be concerned about the defection was that those who defected from
the PDP to the PPA were said to have been led by a former staunch member of
the PDP from Ngwa. It was the same Ngwa that trumpeted that the governor
was given automatic ticket for the Senate in 2015.

Although, this has shown that Ngwa people did not collectively gave the
governor the ticket, but his surrogates and stooges he uses to score cheap
political publicity, did. As if a Garth Stein had Gov. Orji at heart in
“destiny, ignorance”, and he said: “That which we manifest is before us; we
are the creators of our own destiny. Be it through intention or ignorance,
our successes and our failures have been brought on by none other than
ourselves.”

This is happening to our beloved Abia, because Gov. Orji refused to pay
attention to times and distance. Instead, he bent, focusing on how to
witch-hunt divergent views to his, thereby trading with reality in place of
emotion in such a hi-powered office as the governor.

The defection may not be the finished line of more defections that would be
experienced in the months before 2015, because of what the state Chairman
of PPA, Prince Emeka Okafor, described the government in Umuahia as.

“What thrives in Abia presently is the imposition of taxes and levies on
the poor masses; the people have been milked dry, yet there is nothing to
show for it. The only things you will see in Abia State today are bill
boards that are advertising nothing,” Okafor reportedly said, while
addressing the defectors.

Governor Orji has driven his rusted political knife into the fabrics of
Abia politics, making anger to become a culture among the people and now,
they are expressing inclination to fight, the energy and proposal of fury,
to survive, whereas the governor is on his escapades of defense and pride,
ceaseless grudge, harnessing his destiny to the talent to not avoid
forgiveness.

The careless manner in which robbers of good governance in Abia State are
destroying the state should stop. But it is very fortunate for the PPA,
which the governor wanted to destroy. The defection would spring up the
grassroots that did not shake, even though that the executives at the state
level shook. Gov. Orji should see that nothing remains permanent and his
crave to be perpetually in office is transient.
